A player is offside if he is closer to the opponent´s goal than the ball and all but one of the opponents when he receives a pass. A player can be considered to be in a passive offside position if he does not actively take part in the move or is in a part of the field where he does not influence the move. If that is the case, the linesman should not signal for offside.
